76ers' Embiid puts on a show, but thinks he could have done more

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Joel Embiid put on a performance for the ages and thought it could've been even better.

Embiid had 43 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists in the Philadelphia 76ers' 123-108 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night. It was his third 40-point game in the last four outings and sixth in his last 10.

The 76ers (44-35) have won four of their last five games and are now just one game behind the Milwaukee Bucks for third place in the Eastern Conference.

The Spurs (19-59) have lost 10 of their last 11 games and are now in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since the 1996-97 season.

Embiid was 14 of 22 from the field and 15 of 19 from the free-throw line. He also had three blocks and two steals.

"I'm just trying to be aggressive and do what I can to help my team win," Embiid said. "I think I can still be better, but I'm happy with the way I'm playing right now."

Embiid's performance was especially impressive considering he was playing on a sore left knee. He injured the knee in the 76ers' previous game against the Brooklyn Nets and was questionable to play against the Spurs.

"He's a warrior," 76ers coach Doc Rivers said. "He's playing through some pain, but he's not making any excuses. He's just going out there and playing hard.

The 76ers also got strong performances from Tobias Harris (20 points) and James Harden (19 points, 10 assists).
